Good Keywords is free Windows software which aims to find the perfect set of keywords for you and your website. It is just a 500KB download and completely safe to download and use. This is a very useful tool which can save you a lot of research time.

As well as keyword research, this tool will also show you your site popularity (using Alexa) and your link popularity - the number of websites that link to yours.

Google Trends

Straight out of Google Labs, this Google Trends tool is still in development. However it is still provides exciting results for analysing how search terms have fluctuated in popularity over time. Therefore you will be able to note which keywords are in decline and which are experiencing good growth with Google's search engine.

Google Trends also enables you to graphically compare search terms on the same image. For some terms you are also shown Google news items which involve the keywords entered over the period shown.

Due to this tool still being in development, you may find that many of the niche terms, which are relatively unpopular, do not provide results when entered in the 'Search Trends' box. Instead you will get "Your terms - keywords - do not have enough search volume to show graphs."
Google Trends does not provide you with actual search figures for your terms either - just a relative fluctuation.
